Herschel Walker Returns Jan. 29

While an unfortunate facial cut forced Strikeforce heavyweight Herschel Walker (1-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) out of a planned December appearance, the former football great won't stay on the shelf long.
Walker already has been penciled into Strikeforce's upcoming Jan. 29 event, which takes place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
Walker's opponent of the Showtime-televised fight hasn't been determined.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker today revealed the booking during an appearance on San Jose's KNBR 680 AM. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) since has confirmed Walker's involvement with additional sources close to the promotion.
Walker – the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner, a former NFL great and 1992 Olympic bob-sledder – is a lifelong martial artist who plunged into the world of mixed martial arts in 2009. To much media attention (and the disdain of some fans), the 48-year-old made his pro debut a month later and earned a TKO win over Greg Nagy at January's "Strikeforce: Miami" event.
Walker was expected to face former WEC fighter Scott Carson at "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu II," which took place earlier this month, but the laceration suffered in training left the heavyweight no choice but to withdraw.
Carson wasn't rebooked for the event, so it's a possibility he could be Walker's opponent next month.
Further details on the Jan. 29 event are expected to be announced shortly.
